Applause for Figaro in the city of opera.
 Teatro alla Scala - Milano, Italy
In the heart of opera country, the classic La Scala desperately needed renovation. Its 19th century stage machinery – hemp ropes, sandbags and hydraulic elevators operated by hand-actuated valves – was a charming feature of this most traditional house. The one concession to modernity, electric lights.
They needed to renovate and prepare for the future, and had no idea how well prepared for the globalization of the arts they would be.
Work was being done, the house was being renovated Italian style – with great design and attention to historical detail. But there was a surprise – the changed expectations of Milanese audiences who had been exposed to the high tech amenity, the Simultext® system from Figaro Systems.
Prior to the renovation, the Pirelli Corporation had donated to the City of Milan a new performing arts venue, Teatro degli Arcimboldi. La Scala’s audiences liked the Simultext® system in the Arcimboldi so much that they demanded it in the original building. And the city of opera lovers known as Milan listened to the applause of its people.
